Professor Kingsley Moghalu, former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has rejected his inclusion in the policy team of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar’s 2027 presidential campaign council.
This as he stated that he was neither consulted nor gave his consent before his name was published.
Moghalu made his position known in a statement shared on his official X account on Thursday, reacting moments after Atiku’s African Democratic Congress (ADC) campaign unveiled its structure for the 2027 presidential election, with his name listed among members of the policy team.
The former CBN deputy governor, however, insisted that the listing does not reflect his present political standing, maintaining that he left partisan politics in 2022.
“For the record: I was not consulted and did not give my consent to my name being published as a member of the ADC candidate’s policy team,” Moghalu stated. “I am NOT, in fact, a member of Atiku’s policy team, even unofficially or in any advisory capacity.”
He further stressed his non-partisan posture, saying: “I have quit partisan politics in Nigeria since 2022. I have maintained, and continue to maintain, my non-partisan posture in our country’s national affairs. I am not a member or sympathiser of any political party in Nigeria.”
According to him, his current engagements are centred on public policy and geopolitical risk rather than party politics. He noted that he serves as President of IGET Africa, which he described as a non-partisan public policy think tank and executive education academy, as well as Chief Executive Officer of Sogato Strategies, a geopolitical risk and regulatory strategy advisory firm.
Moghalu was quick to point out that his dedication to the country should not be mistaken for loyalty to any political party or candidate.
“I remain committed to my country, Nigeria and its progress, but such commitment does not have to entail ANY partisan alignment. I have adopted the path of statesmanship, not partisanship,” he said.
The development followed the announcement of Atiku’s campaign structure, which is headed by Kashim Ibrahim-Imam as chairman, with former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai as deputy chairman and Senator Austin Akobundu as Director-General and Campaign Manager.
The campaign also named economist and banker Mohammed Hayatudeen as chairman of its Policy Team, with Professor Mohammed Sagagi as deputy chairman. Moghalu was listed among other members of the policy team.
