Six Nigerian Law School students were kidnapped by suspected bandits in Benue State while en route to resume studies at the institutionโs Yola Campus in Adamawa State.
According to NewsPointNigeria, the abduction took place on the evening of Saturday, July 26, along the high-risk Wukari-Benue borderโa route known for frequent kidnappings, armed robberies, and attacks by criminal gangs.
The victims were returning from Onitsha, Anambra State, after completing their compulsory court externship program. The Yola campus is set to reopen on Monday, July 28.
A fellow student, Damilare Adenola, confirmed the incident, voicing distress over his colleaguesโ safety:
โSix students of the Nigerian Law School have been reportedly kidnapped by suspected armed bandits while travelling to resume school after their court externship break.โ
The kidnapped students were named as: Rev. Ernest Okafor, Ogbuka Fabian, Nwamma Philip, Okechukwu Obadiegwu, Obalem Emmanuel and Obiorah David,
A Yola campus student union leader, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the situation, confirmed authorities had been alerted:
โWe are all in shock here in Yola. Weโve been in contact with the Adamawa State Police Command, but weโve also been told that the incident happened outside their jurisdiction. We are waiting and praying for more concrete updates.โ
SP Yahaya Suleiman, spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police, acknowledged the reports but clarified the abduction occurred beyond state borders:
โThe abduction did not happen within Adamawa. Weโve traced the location to an area near Benue.โ
He assured collaborative efforts with Benue police and security agencies, stating:
โWe are in constant communication with the Benue State Police Command and other relevant security outfits. The safety of those travelling into or out of Adamawa is a top priority.โ
