The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man, Bashar Aliyu, for allegedly killing his 70-year-old grandfather in Sabon Kariya Village of Ganjuwa Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the incident was reported to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Ganjuwa on May 17, 2026, at about 5:00 p.m.
Police said a 58-year-old resident of Sabon Kariya Village informed authorities that earlier that day, at approximately 4:30 p.m., the suspect allegedly stabbed his grandfather, Ibrahim Maisaje, with a knife inside the victimโs room.
Upon receiving the report, police operatives immediately visited the scene and evacuated the victim to the General Hospital, Kafin Madaki. A medical doctor on duty later certified the 70-year-old man dead.
The suspect was subsequently arrested, and preliminary investigations were carried out by the police. Authorities disclosed that no weapon or other exhibit was recovered from the scene during the initial investigation.
The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Bauchi for a comprehensive and discreet investigation.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the alleged act and assured residents that justice would be pursued in accordance with the law.
He also called on members of the public to embrace peaceful means of resolving disputes and to promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies to help prevent similar tragedies.
Police authorities said further updates would be provided as investigations progress.
