The Federal Government has declared a resolute stance against terrorism, announcing the successful execution of precision military strikes that neutralized key enclaves of foreign Islamic State (ISIS) elements in Sokoto State.
The operation, conducted in the early hours of Friday, December 26, 2025, targeted two major terrorist hubs within the Bauni forest axis of Tangaza Local Government Area. Intelligence confirmed the locations were being used as assembly and staging grounds by ISIS militants infiltrating from the Sahel region, in collaboration with local affiliates, to plan large-scale attacks on Nigerian soil.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu granted explicit approval for the mission, which was carried out under established command and control structures involving the Armed Forces of Nigeria and supervised by the Ministers of Defence and Foreign Affairs, as well as the Chief of Defence Staff.
In a significant demonstration of tactical reach, the strikes were launched from maritime platforms in the Gulf of Guinea. Utilizing MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial vehicles, the operation deployed 16 GPS-guided precision munitions, successfully hitting the designated targets and neutralizing the terrorist elements.
“The Federal Government of Nigeria reiterates its unwavering resolve to confront, degrade, and eliminate terrorist threats, particularly those posed by transnational extremist networks seeking to undermine Nigeria’s sovereignty and security,” stated the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, in the official release.
The government confirmed that debris from expended munitions fell in Jabo, Sokoto State, and Offa, Kwara State, with no civilian casualties reported. Relevant authorities have secured the affected areas.
