Celebrity businessman and socialite Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has failed to secure the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives ticket for the Orsu/Orlu/Oru East Federal Constituency in Imo State.
The nightlife entrepreneur, who serves as the South-East Coordinator of the City Boy Movement, was defeated in the APC primary elections held ahead of the 2027 general elections .
Defeated by Incumbent Lawmaker
Multiple reports indicate that Cubana Chief Priest lost the party’s ticket to the incumbent lawmaker representing the constituency, Hon. Canice Moore Nwachukwu (also referred to in some reports as Omeogo), who secured enough delegate support to retain the party’s candidacy . The Orlu-Orsu-Oru East seat is considered politically competitive in Imo State, with strong party structures and established political networks often influencing outcomes .
Political Ambition and Campaign
Cubana Chief Priest formally announced his political ambition in late April 2026 after visiting the APC secretariat in Imo State . He purchased the party’s nomination and expression of interest forms, stating that his desire to run for office was driven by a commitment to youth empowerment, talent development, improved security, and economic growth for his constituency .
The celebrity-turned-politician had been appointed Imo State Director of the City Boys Movement in February 2026, with the group describing him as a “symbol of dedication, strategic leadership, and unwavering commitment” to advancing President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda . His entry into politics generated widespread reactions across the South-East political space and on social media .
Mixed Reactions to Defeat
Supporters had pointed to his popularity, philanthropic activities, and influence among young people as strengths, while critics questioned his political experience and readiness for legislative responsibilities .
Following the outcome, social media users expressed mixed reactions. While some mocked his defeat, suggesting he may have underestimated the complexities of Nigerian politics, others defended him. Ossai Ovie Success, Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Delta State Governor, criticised those ridiculing him online: “Why are people mocking Cubana Chief Priest? Not nice… it’s ok to try and try again. He lost an election and so what? I am disappointed” .
