Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has dismissed as false and baseless claims circulating on social media that he is preparing to defect from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Prince Daniel, Tambuwal stated categorically that he has no plans to join the APC.
“For the avoidance of doubt, I have no plans to join the APC. Suggestions to the contrary are false, baseless and should be disregarded,” he said.
The former Sokoto State governor described himself as a respected statesman and one of the few politicians in Nigeria with a wide network of friendships and longstanding relationships across party lines, noting that such relationships reflect years of public service and mutual respect and should not be misrepresented as evidence of a change in political allegiance.
Addressing the photographs and video clips circulating on social media, Tambuwal stressed that “political civility is no proof of political realignment,” adding that exchanging greetings or interacting with members of another party does not amount to negotiating a change of allegiance.
“I remain firmly committed to the ADC. My focus is on strengthening the party, building broad cooperation and mobilising Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections,” he said.
He also urged media organisations and social media commentators to verify claims with his media office before publishing them, warning that “speculation must never be presented as fact.”
Tambuwal further called on supporters and the public to remain focused on the work ahead, stressing that at a time when Nigerians are demanding answers to pressing economic, security and governance challenges, public discussion deserves substance and truth.
“Unfounded speculation must not distract from the urgent task of offering Nigerians credible leadership and a better future. My commitment to accountable leadership, democratic values and the welfare of Nigerians remains unwavering,” he added.
