The Bauchi State Government has approved the release of N888,507,400.00 to fund the payment of external examination fees for students in public secondary schools across the state.
The approval was granted by Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed as part of the administration’s continued commitment to improving access to education and supporting students from low-income families.
Briefing Journalists the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim, explained that the funds will cater for registration and related costs for key examinations, including the National Examinations Council (NECO), National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS), as well as the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and Computer-Based Test (CBT) training.
A breakdown of the beneficiaries indicates that 22,646 students will be registered for NECO, 2,064 for NABTEB, 207 for NBAIS, while 6,562 students will benefit from JAMB registration and CBT training. Altogether, 24,917 students across Bauchi State are set to benefit from the intervention.
The Ministry described the itiative as a major step toward ensuring that no qualified student is prevented from sitting for external examinations due to financial hardship. It added that the investment reflects the government’s drive to promote equity, enhance learning outcomes, and expand opportunities for young people in the state.
The Commissioner, commended the governor for the strategic intervention, noting that it will relieve parents and guardians of financial pressure and open doors for thousands of students to pursue higher education and career advancement.
