The National Chairman of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) officially received Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and key stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the party following deepening leadership challenges within the PDP.
At a major political gathering attended by senior government officials, lawmakers, party leaders, and supporters, Governor Bala Mohammed explained that the move was prompted by the unresolved internal crisis in the PDP, worsened by the recent Supreme Court judgment on the party’s disputed leadership structure.
Addressing party faithful, Bala Mohammed said the Supreme Court ruling, which nullified actions from parallel conventions conducted by opposing factions, created significant uncertainty within the PDP and weakened efforts to restore party stability.
He disclosed that after days of consultations at the highest political levels in Abuja and extensive discussions with stakeholders, it became evident that remaining within the troubled PDP would jeopardize the political future of his supporters and Bauchi State.
While acknowledging the PDP’s historical significance in his political journey and contributions to governance, Bala Mohammed stressed that responsible leadership demanded a clear and effective political platform capable of sustaining progress.
“As responsible leaders, we cannot allow our people to remain stranded without a credible political direction,” he stated.
He announced that, after broad consultations, Bauchi political stakeholders had resolved to align with the APM as a strategic platform to secure future electoral victories and continue delivering governance with integrity.
The APM National Chairman welcomed Bala Mohammed and his supporters, describing the development as a significant boost for the party’s national expansion and political strength.
The defection marks a major shift in Bauchi’s political landscape and could have far-reaching implications for future elections in the state, as the APM seeks to strengthen its foothold with the addition of one of the region’s most influential political figures.
