In a coordinated three-day offensive across two northwestern states, troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA have delivered another decisive blow to terrorist enclaves, neutralizing nine armed fighters including two high-profile kingpins.
The operations, conducted between May 1 and May 3, 2026, targeted terrorist strongholds in Katsina and Zamfara States, resulting in the recovery of four AK-47 rifles, nine motorcycles, and a substantial cache of ammunition.
Katsina Operation: Ambush on Turare–Yantumaki Road
In the first major engagement, troops from Forward Operating Base Fudma encountered terrorists while on fighting patrol along the Turare–Yantumaki Road in Dutsima Local Government Area of Katsina State.
A fierce firefight erupted, leaving four terrorists neutralized. Troops recovered two AK-47 rifles with two magazines, quantities of ammunition, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones, and cash totaling ₦153,000.
Zamfara Double Strike: Kingpins Fall in Anka LGA
The most significant action unfolded in Zamfara State between May 2 and May 3, where troops at Forward Operating Base Bagega executed a high-stakes operation in Anka Local Government Area.
On May 2, troops initially engaged armed terrorists along the Bagega–Anka Road, forcing four fighters on two motorcycles to retreat and abandon their bikes. However, the terrorists regrouped and launched a counterattack on Forward Operating Base Bagega itself.
Reinforcements from various combat teams arrived swiftly, and precision airstrikes from the Air Component turned the tide. As a second wave of eight terrorists on four motorcycles advanced, troops repelled the assault and neutralized three of them. Exploitation of the scene yielded two AK-47 rifles with loaded magazines and seven motorcycles.
The following day, May 3, troops encountered two additional terrorists on motorbikes in the same area. Both were neutralized on the spot.
Among the seven terrorists killed in Zamfara were two notorious kingpins identified as Anaruwa and Gomina. Intelligence sources confirmed that Anaruwa was the younger brother of Kachalla Idi Aiki, a known terrorist commander still at large.
Sacrifice and Aftermath
Tragically, the operation came at a cost. One soldier paid the ultimate sacrifice during the fierce exchanges in Zamfara.
Troops have since consolidated their presence in Bagega, maintaining dominance over the area to prevent any resurgence of terrorist activity.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA reaffirmed its commitment to protecting citizens and urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
