The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has criticised the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, over the party’s failure to pay its workers for more than a year.
In a statement issued on Monday, October 26, by its spokesperson, Dele Alake, the APC Campaign Council said the ADC’s National Working Committee, led by Senator David Mark as Chairman and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as Secretary, had “refused and neglected” to pay party staff for over 12 months.
“We find it unconscionable that a political party that has made many grandiose promises to hoodwink Nigerians owes its workers for more than 12 months. Owing staff who come to work every day and who rely on the salaries for their daily sustenance is wicked and reprehensible,” the statement said.
The APC said the development had exposed “the emptiness and insincerity of those parading themselves as ‘new saviours.'”
It stated that ADC leaders and its presidential candidate do not mean well for the country, adding that “their desperation for power is driven by personal aggrandisement and venomous ill will against President Bola Tinubu.”
“A party that cannot pay its cleaners and workforce cannot be entrusted with our country’s affairs,” the APC said.
The ruling party also took a swipe at Atiku’s business record, alleging that staff at his Gotel Communication and other businesses went months without pay and staged protests over unpaid salaries and other benefits, even as he “regularly junkets to the UAE.”
It further criticised Aregbesola’s record as governor of Osun State, alleging that he mismanaged the state’s finances, introduced quarter-salary and at times half-salary payments, and abandoned pensioners for more than four years.
“We are therefore not surprised that ADC, harbouring birds of the same feather, cannot pay its workers’ salaries,” the statement said.
The APC Campaign Council urged Nigerians and working people to reject the ADC, Atiku Abubakar and all ADC candidates in the next general elections.
“A party that aspires to govern Nigeria and which cannot be trusted with something as basic as the management of its own affairs and the welfare of its workforce should be rejected by Nigerians,” it said.
