Kylian Mbappé scored twice as Real Madrid defeated Barcelona 2–1 in a fiercely contested El Clásico at the Camp Nou on Sunday, securing a crucial victory in the Spanish La Liga.
Mbappé proved decisive in the high-profile encounter, scoring once in each half to give Madrid the advantage and leave Barcelona frustrated despite a spirited fightback.
The French forward opened the scoring in the 41st minute, reacting quickly to a loose ball inside the penalty area before firing past Barcelona goalkeeper Joan García to put the visitors ahead.
Barcelona returned from the break determined to level the contest and were rewarded in the 61st minute when Raphinha finished clinically after receiving a short pass from Pedri inside the box. The Brazilian cut inside his marker before unleashing a powerful shot into the left side of the net.
The equaliser lifted the home side, who pressed for a second goal as the match became increasingly intense. Lamine Yamal and Gerard Martín threatened Barcelona’s attacking push, but Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin and the visitors’ defence held firm under pressure.
Madrid, however, delivered the decisive blow in the 88th minute. Mbappé pounced from close range after receiving a pass from Eduardo Camavinga, restoring Real Madrid’s lead and completing his brace.
Barcelona mounted a late search for another equaliser, but Madrid resisted the pressure through five minutes of added time to preserve their advantage.
The closing stages were tense, with Mbappé booked in stoppage time as tempers and urgency rose in the battle between the Spanish giants.
The victory gives Real Madrid a significant boost in the La Liga title race, while Barcelona are left to reflect on missed opportunities after creating several promising chances during the encounter.
For Madrid, Mbappé’s clinical finishing proved the difference in a match where both sides displayed attacking ambition but only the visitors converted their decisive opportunities.
