The Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, and the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, have both expressed readiness to deepen political collaboration aimed at promoting national unity and development.
The two leaders held a closed-door meeting on Thursday at the Presidential Wing of the Government House in Bauchi. After the discussions, Obi told journalists that his visit was part of wider consultations with stakeholders from the South East aimed at strengthening cooperation across regions.
He explained that the engagement with Bauchi leaders and those in the North East was driven by a shared concern for national cohesion and the need to redirect the country towards a more stable and productive path.
According to him, Nigeria requires renewed commitment from leaders across regions to address current challenges and build a system where opportunities are accessible to all citizens regardless of background.
โWe are engaging stakeholders across the country because there is a need to rebuild trust and strengthen unity.
The country cannot continue on its current trajectory,โ Obi said, stressing the importance of inclusive development.
In his response, Governor Mohammed described Obiโs visit as a significant gesture of goodwill, noting that discussions centered on cooperation, mutual understanding, and national progress rather than political advantage.
He added that the meeting reflected a shared desire to rebuild bridges between regions and revive the spirit of unity envisioned by Nigeriaโs founding leaders.
Mohammed also praised Obiโs recent engagements in sectors such as education and healthcare, describing them as evidence of his commitment to development-focused leadership.
Both leaders concluded that sustained collaboration among political actors is essential for addressing national challenges and fostering long-term stability.
