…Accuses Obi of plot to incit insurrection
The National Publicity Secretary of Labour Party, Abayomi Arabambi, has accused the party’s former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, of attempting to use the platform to incite insurrection in Nigeria.
This is even as he dismissed claims by Peter Obi, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, that he won the last presidential election.
Arabambi made the assertion when he appeared on News Central on Wednesday, while reacting to an earlier decision made by the Peter Obi led faction of the party.
Recalled that the Abure-led faction on Wednesday announced the indefinite suspension of several prominent members, including Abia State Governor Alex Otti, Senator Ireti Kingibe (FCT), and Senator Darlighton Nwokocha (Abia Central), over alleged anti-party activities.
The announcement followed an emergency meeting of the faction’s National Executive Committee (NEC) in Abuja, where members considered the findings of a five-man Disciplinary Committee set up last week.
The committee, chaired by Deputy National Chairman Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi and including National Secretary Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim and three other senior party officials, was tasked with investigating allegations of misconduct against the suspended members.
Following what it described as “exhaustive deliberation” and citing the Labour Party Constitution, the NEC ratified the committee’s recommendations.
Others suspended with immediate effect include Hon. Victor Afam Ogene, Hon. Amobi Ogah, and Hon. Seyi Sowunmi.
“How can Alex Otti and Obi now be claiming to be chairman and secretary, purportedly? That they would even write a letter to INEC (Independent National Electoral Commission) as chairman and secretary to convene a NEC meeting,” Arabambi said.
“Section 82(1) says such shall be signed by the national chairman of the party, and Section 12 is very specific — any association that wants to be registered as a political party shall have its own lifeline, shall have its own constitution. Section 3, number 222 of the Constitution, stops caretakers from administering the affairs of a political party.”
He continued, “You know they brought in Dr. Doyin Okupe; now they have gone to bring Nenadi Usman.”
He alleged that Usman has a pending matter with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) since 2015.
“Obi is synonymous with moving with people that have corruption,” he said.
“Obi is synonymous with moving with people that have corruption…we are not going to bring anybody pretending to be a nationalist but they are nothing but intruders…”
He further stated: “They say they are nationalists, but they are nothing but intruders — people that just want to set Nigeria ablaze. That is their plan. “They are saying they were rigged in the 2023 election, but I am saying to Nigerians via your station that we were not rigged. The people that Peter Obi trusted messed up that election for us.”
