…Says court ruling validates party’s warning against political nomads
Dr. Abayomi Arabambi (FBAU), the factional National Vice Chairman (South-West) of the Labour Party, has described the Federal High Court’s decision to nullify the registration of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as “divine justice” for Peter Obi’s betrayal of the Labour Party.
A Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja, Kogi State, on Friday set aside its earlier judgment of December 10, 2025, which had compelled the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the NDC as a political party .
Justice Isah Dashen, in his ruling, held that the earlier judgment was “constitutionally defective” as it was delivered without hearing from all interested parties.
The court upheld an application filed by the Peace Movement Party (PMP), which argued that the NDC’s registration was based on a logo it had previously submitted to INEC before the commencement of the suit .
The judge further ruled that the status quo be restored to what it was before the December 2025 judgment, pending the determination of the substantive suit.
The court also observed that certain material facts were suppressed in the earlier proceedings, which justified the decision to set aside the judgment .
Speaking on the ruling, Arabambi said: “This court ruling is poetic justice. It is a reminder that no amount of coalition-building and party-hopping can substitute for due process, loyalty, and institutional integrity. Peter Obi’s ‘bad luck’ is not superstition, it is the inevitable consequence of abandoning every party that ever gave him a platform.”
The Labour Party chieftain recalled that the party had earlier warned Senator Seriake Dickson and the NDC leadership against allowing Obi and his supporters to wield excessive influence within their party .
Arabambi stated: “We warned them. We said Obi’s political motive is to conquer and illegally take over the leadership of any political party that accommodates him. Today, that warning has proven prophetic. The NDC ignored our counsel, and now they are paying the price.”
The court ruling means that every action taken by INEC in compliance with the now-vacated judgment stands reversed, including the issuance of NDC’s certificate of registration and its inclusion in INEC’s records .
Counsel to the applicant, C.S. Ekeocha, clarified that the substantive case remains before the court and has not been concluded, adding that the court only ordered a restoration of the position that existed before the December 10, 2025 judgment .
Arabambi, who has consistently criticized Obi’s political movements across multiple parties, from APGA to PDP, to Labour Party, to ADC, and now to NDC—said the pattern of crises and litigation following Obi is unmistakable .
“History repeats itself. The Labour Party made the mistake of accommodating Obi and his followers ahead of the 2023 elections, sacrificing tickets and resources, only to see them turn against the party leadership. Now the NDC is learning the same bitter lesson,” Arabambi added.
