VP Slot: Whatever Tinubu Asks Me To Do in 2027, I’ll Do It, Barau Opens Up

Deputy President of the Senate (DSP), Senator Barau Jibrin, has opened up on speculation that he is a possible running mate to President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 poll.

Jibrin was firm on Wednesday while commenting on the issue, saying that as his political father, whatever Tinubu would ask of him to do in 2027, he would oblige him.

“I am loyal to Mr President. Whatever he asks me to do, I will do it.

“We come from the same political family; some of you may not know about this. Whatever he tells me to do in 2027 I will do it”, Senator Jibrin told Senate Correspondents in Abuja on Wednesday.

However, Jibrin, who is from Kano State, noted that it would be premature to start discussing issues relating to 2027 now, especially that the President still had two more years on his first ticket and needed time to concentrate on governance.

The DSP advised against distracting Tinubu, stating that the President needed all the support he could get to steer the ship of state.

“Let’s support the President. When the time comes we can discuss that.

“When the time comes, whatever he asks me to do I will do it.

“If by that time, he says I want you to work for me, I will say thank you sir”, Jibrin added.

The DSP spoke amid increasing speculation that Tinubu may be shopping for a replacement for Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Two weeks ago, at a North-East zonal meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC), participants endorsed Tinubu for a second term, but excluded Shettima, a development that led to protests by the VP’s supporters.

Of late, unconfirmed reports suggest that Tinubu and Shettima have fallen apart, as the President is reported to be looking for a new partner for his 2027 ticket.

Only on Tuesday, Jibrin had reacted to a group, Northern Nigeria Progressive Youth Assembly (NNPYA), calling on Tinubu to pick him as his running for the 2027 poll.

In his reaction, he had cautioned the group against distracting the President.

But, on Wednesday, he spoke more openly, saying when the time became ripe and the President asked him to join him as a running mate, he would oblige him.
