Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has fired back at Afrobeats superstar Davido, telling the singer to prepare to “sign your uncle as a dancer” once the Osun State governorship election results are announced.
The war of words began when Davido, whose uncle Ademola Adeleke is the incumbent governor of Osun State and seeking re-election on August 15, 2026, appealed during a Wednesday press conference for a yet-unnamed politician from Imo State to allow a free and fair election in Osun. Though the singer did not mention Uzodimma by name, his comments were widely interpreted as a direct reference to the Imo governor.
In a sharp rebuttal issued on Thursday through his Senior Special Assistant on Electronic and Creative Media, Ambrose Nwaogwugwu, Uzodimma dismissed Davido’s appeal as misguided, insisting that the singer should direct his concerns to Osun voters rather than to him.
The governor went further, predicting a decisive defeat for Governor Adeleke, whom he accused of failing the people of Osun State.
“The reality is that Governor Ademola Adeleke has, in the opinion of many, failed woefully in the discharge of his responsibilities. This is why many Osun voters are determined to vote him out in the August 15, 2026, governorship election,” the statement read.
Uzodimma said the mood across Osun State points to a massive rejection of the incumbent, with voters appearing ready to embrace the All Progressives Congress candidate.
Rather than making emotional appeals, the governor advised Davido to focus on helping his uncle prepare for life after government.
“Perhaps, Davido should also begin making preparations to officially sign his uncle as a dancer in his musical band, because judging by the mood of the electorate, he may well be out of a political job after the August 15, 2026, governorship election,” the statement added.
The exchange has intensified political tensions ahead of the Osun election, with both the ruling APC and opposition PDP gearing up for a high-stakes contest. Davido, who has been an outspoken supporter of his uncle’s political career, has yet to respond to Uzodimma’s latest remarks.
All eyes will be on Osun State on August 15 as voters decide whether Governor Adeleke secures a second term or faces the political exit his opponents are predicting — and which, according to Uzodimma, might just land him a new role as a dancer in his nephew’s band.
