The Edo State Government has distanced itself from widespread reports claiming that superstar singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has been banned from entering the state, describing the originator of the claim as an “enemy of Edo State,” an impostor, and a fraud.
In a strongly worded press release issued on Friday by the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, the government denounced the purported ban as a spiteful act of mischief aimed at sowing discord between the state and one of Nigeria’s most celebrated musical exports.
“The proclaimer of that ban is an enemy of Edo State; an impostor, and a fraud,” the statement read in part. “The Government of Edo State hereby dissociates itself from such spiteful behavior.”
Contrary to the viral rumours, the government reaffirmed that Edo State remains open to all, regardless of political persuasion, ethnic affinity, or legal affiliation, and expressly welcomed the Grammy-nominated artiste as a cherished son of the soil.
