In his address following the armed attack and abduction of residents in Kurmin Wali village, Kajuru Local Government Area, Kaduna State Governor, Malam Uba Sani, has declared that his administration will not engage in political disputes over security, insisting that the sole focus is the rescue of the victims.
The governor’s statement comes amid initial confusion surrounding the incident, which was first denied and later confirmed by authorities, with the number of abducted individuals still unverified. Some reports suggest over 166 people were taken.
Speaking in an interview with the BBC, Governor Sani drew a clear line between governance and partisan rhetoric. “We do not politicise security in Kaduna State. Those who try to turn it into politics will be ashamed,” he stated, emphasizing that the safety of lives and property remains his government’s top priority.
He revealed that he has personally met with the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu; the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa; the Director-General of the DSS; and the Inspector-General of Police to ensure a coordinated and robust response. The governor expressed satisfaction with the ongoing efforts of security agencies, whom he said have been given the professional freedom to investigate the attack and track the perpetrators.
Reiterating a key state policy, Governor Sani ruled out the payment of ransom, affirming that the rescue operation would be led by the combined efforts of the military, police, and DSS. He declined to comment on operational details, including whether suspects have been identified, citing the sensitivity of ongoing missions.
Calling for public cooperation, the governor stressed that security is a shared responsibility. “The public should rise and support security agencies. Security is not something the government alone can handle,” he appealed, urging residents to provide credible information.
Concluding with a personal pledge, Governor Uba Sani assured the people of Kaduna of his unwavering commitment: “As governor, I will not rest or sleep, by God’s grace, until everyone returns home safely.”
