Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have dismantled an Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) roadblock along the Buratai–Kamuya highway in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, rescuing 53 hostages and recovering eight vehicles seized by the insurgents .
The operation, conducted on Wednesday by Sector 2 troops of the 135 Special Forces Battalion, followed intelligence gathered through surveillance cameras that detected terrorists mounting a roadblock along the highway .
Military sources said troops stationed at Dutse Kura sighted the insurgents blocking the road and immediately mobilised a Quick Reaction Force to the scene. The troops pursued the fleeing terrorists towards the Mangari–Dora general area, engaged them in a firefight and forced them to withdraw in confusion .
During the encounter, troops successfully rescued 53 innocent civilians held by the terrorists and recovered eight vehicles that had been seized during the roadblock operation .
The troops further advanced to clear the insurgents’ withdrawal route, dominated the area and conducted further searches, though no additional contact was made. All rescued persons, recovered vehicles and other properties were safely moved to Buratai town, where the civilians are currently undergoing documentation and medical evaluation .
In a statement issued by the Acting Military Information Officer of the Headquarters Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, the Theatre Command commended the troops for their professionalism and swift response .
The Command urged all citizens within the Joint Operations Area to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely information regarding any suspicious movements and activities within their domain .
The military said the general security situation in the area remains calm as troops continue to maintain an aggressive posture and dominance in the general area .
