Jos, Plateau State – In a decisive operation aimed at curbing criminality, troops of the Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE (JTF OPEP) have neutralised one kidnapper and arrested three suspected informants during a rapid response to a kidnapping incident in Dong community, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to a statement issued on Monday, 15 December 2025, by the Media Information Officer of the JTF, Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, the operation, conducted under the ongoing “Operation PEACE SHIELD,” was launched following credible intelligence on the planned criminal activity.
Upon receiving the intelligence report, troops mobilised swiftly to the specified location in Dong community where a kidnapping attempt was reported. Their prompt arrival forced the armed kidnappers to abort their initial mission and flee the scene.
However, while retreating, the criminals diverted to an adjoining community where they succeeded in abducting four persons before security forces could intercept them.
Undeterred, the troops immediately launched a pursuit operation. They caught up with the kidnappers and engaged them in a fierce firefight. During the exchange, one of the kidnappers was neutralised by the troops.
Following the engagement, security forces conducted a mop-up operation, recovering significant evidence from the scene. Items recovered include one AK-47 rifle with a magazine and four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition from the neutralised kidnapper.
In a critical follow-up to the armed engagement, troops also apprehended three individuals suspected of being informants who were allegedly providing logistical and intelligence support to the kidnapping network.
Major Zhakom confirmed that efforts are intensively ongoing to locate and safely rescue the four abducted victims. He also stated that operations are continuing to track down and apprehend other fleeing members of the criminal gang involved in the incident.
The Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE used the statement to reassure residents of its unwavering commitment. “The Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE assures the general public of its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property in Plateau State, and indeed the entire Joint Operations Area (JOA),” the statement read.
It further emphasised the high readiness of its personnel, stating, “Troops remain highly motivated, vigilant, and operationally effective, and will continue to take decisive action against all forms of criminality to ensure lasting peace and security in the JOA.”
