Senator Shehu Buba (APC, Bauchi South) has declared his intention to contest the Bauchi State governorship election in 2027.
Mr Buba said this on Saturday while addressing party supporters in Gumau town, in the Toro Local Government Area of the state.
He said he would join the race on the APC ticket to inject fresh blood into the leadership and fast-track sustainable social and economic development in the state.
The lawmaker said that his declaration followed wide consultations and calls from across the state.
“I stand before you today with humility and gratitude to Allah, to formally declare my intention to contest for the office of Governor of Bauchi State in the 2027 elections.
“I seek your support, your prayers and your partnership. Together, we shall build the Bauchi of our dreams,” he said.
He promised to adopt an innovative blueprint that would address poverty, unemployment, improve infrastructure, education and healthcare services for the betterment of all.
Mr Buba said that the PDP-led administration had failed to move the state forward despite the huge revenues allocated to it over the last seven years.
“In accepting the burden and task to run for the office of the governor of our dear state, we have been closely monitoring the stewardship of the PDP-led government of Bauchi State over the past seven years.
“We are convinced that given every variable in place, particularly the huge revenue and other resources that have been made available to the government, the fact remains: we can do better.
“We have verifiable data on how much the PDP government has received thus far. We are equally in receipt of a detailed analysis conducted by an independent body of experts on the projects executed by the government and at what cost.
“Naturally and objectively, these findings have given rise to certain valid questions, and we are going to ask the right questions.
“In fact, we have to do better. That is why we are in the race. And for the sake of our people, the struggle to reclaim Bauchi and usher in a new era of better governance in all respects has just started,” Mr Buba said.
The governorship hopeful announced plans to unveil a blueprint for the APC’s new leadership that would make the state a developmental hub in the country.
A former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and a former Director of the NNPC Ltd., Bala Wunti, had earlier indicated interest in joining the Bauchi governorship race on the platform of the APC.
