Former Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, has said President Bola Tinubu has demonstrated friendship to the Igbo people, urging Abia voters to repay him with their votes in 2027.
Speaking on Thursday at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, during the inauguration of the Abia State APC Presidential Campaign Council, Onyejeocha said the President’s record justified a second term.
“President Tinubu has shown that he is a friend of Ndigbo. Abia must speak loudly in 2027 with our votes. We must deliver for the President who has given our daughter a place at the table,” she said.
The council, comprising 618 members, was inaugurated by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, who described the South-East as strategic to the 2027 political calculus.
“We must come together and shake hands across the Niger to remain relevant. Wrong calculation will take us backwards, right calculation will take us forward,” Kalu said, calling on the region to invest its votes strategically.
Kalu also urged Nigerians to allow Tinubu complete an eight-year tenure, arguing that the reforms already initiated need consolidation.
In related development, the Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) declared support for Tinubu’s re-election. PDP deputy governorship candidate Abraham Amah, who was named Chairman of the Inter-Party Mobilization committee, said the party was backing the President because of his performance.
“I want to make it very clear that we are in total support of the re-election of President Ahmed Tinubu. We are mindful of the fact that he has done very well,” Amah said.
Abia APC chairman Chijioke Chukwu, who coordinates the campaign council, described the inauguration as a new dawn for the party, noting that members previously divided were now united.
He appealed to Kalu to use his relationship with the President to fill the Federal Executive Council vacancy left by Onyejeocha’s resignation, insisting the slot should go to a bona fide APC member.
Onyejeocha, a four-term former member of the House of Representatives, resigned from the cabinet in April 2026 in compliance with the presidential directive requiring political appointees seeking elective office to step down.
She is seeking a fifth term representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency and currently serves as South-East Zonal Secretary for Support Group Coordination in the APC presidential campaign council.
The event was attended by the party’s governorship candidate, National Assembly and State House of Assembly candidates, the state chairman, members of the State Working Committee, local government chairmen, former lawmakers and leaders of support groups.
