The Director of the Kano Professional Women Directorate for Presidential and Governorship Elections, Dr. Maryam Shetty, has unveiled plans to mobilise 500,000 professional women in Kano State behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an engagement with journalists in Kano, Dr. Shetty described Governor Yusuf’s administration as one that has given professional women and other groups renewed hope of taking a more active part in governance and community development.
She said the governor’s style of leadership had deepened her confidence in the direction of the state and the prospects of its people, adding that no meaningful progress can be recorded without purposeful leadership.
According to her, the APC Kano Professional Women platform was set up to bring together women from different professional callings, including medical doctors, pharmacists, physiotherapists, entrepreneurs and other skilled professionals, so that they can work together, share ideas and support one another’s growth.
She said the directorate would serve as a meeting point for women who want to contribute their skills to the development of Kano State.
Dr. Shetty further explained that the organisation is committed to understanding the peculiar needs and challenges of professional women and designing programmes that speak directly to those concerns, both before and after elections.
She added that the platform would give women the opportunity to put their expertise at the service of their communities, rather than being limited to the sidelines of public life.
She urged eligible professional women across the state to register with the organisation, noting that the registration would help the directorate to know their interests, understand their challenges and plan programmes that would be of real benefit to them. She directed interested women to the organisation’s website, www.apckanoprofessionalwomen.org, for more information and registration.
“Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s leadership is a source of encouragement for professional women and other groups seeking greater participation in governance and development. His approach to governance has strengthened my optimism about the future of Kano State and its people”, she said.
“Effective leadership is essential to achieving sustainable development. Women professionals have important roles to play in supporting initiatives that promote progress in Kano, Nigeria and beyond,” Dr. Shetty stated.
“The APC Kano Professional Women platform is designed to unite women from different professional backgrounds, including medical doctors, pharmacists, physiotherapists, entrepreneurs and other skilled professionals, to create opportunities for collaboration and development,” she explained.
“We will work towards identifying the needs and challenges of professional women and developing programmes to address them, both before and after elections. This initiative will also provide a platform through which women can contribute their expertise to community development,” she said.
“I call on eligible professional women across Kano State to register with the organisation so that we can identify their interests, understand their challenges and plan programmes that will benefit them. Interested women can obtain further information and register through our website, www.apckanoprofessionalwomen.org,” she urged.
“I express my support for Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. I hope that collective commitment and cooperation will advance the interests of professional women and contribute to the development of Kano State,” she added.
The 500,000 woman mobilisation target is seen by political observers as part of a wider effort to strengthen the ruling party’s presence in Kano, which remains one of the most influential states in the country.
With the 2027 elections drawing closer, the directorate’s focus on professionals, from health workers to business owners, suggests a strategy aimed at reaching beyond the usual party crowd and drawing in women who have built strong reputations in their various fields.
Her call also comes at a time when the APC is working to tighten its hold on the North West, a region that has consistently shaped national electoral outcomes. Kano, given its population and political weight, is expected to be a key battleground, and the professional women directorate is positioning itself to play a leading role in mobilisation, outreach and engagement with communities in the months ahead.
