President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the historic appointment of Dr. Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, making her the first woman to lead the institution since its establishment in 1962.
The appointment, announced by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, takes effect from January 10, 2026, and is for a four-year term. Dr. Odusote, 54, will succeed the outgoing Director-General, Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose tenure concludes on January 9 after eight years of service.
Currently the Deputy Director-General and Head of the Lagos Campus, Dr. Odusote’s promotion marks a significant milestone, ending a 63-year male leadership era at the apex institution for bar vocational training in Nigeria.
A distinguished academic with deep roots in the school, Dr. Odusote joined the Nigerian Law School as a lecturer in 2001. She has since risen through the ranks, holding key positions including Head of the Academic Department and Director of Academics.
Her scholarly credentials include an LL.B and an LL.M specializing in Company and Commercial Law from Obafemi Awolowo University, and a PhD in Law from the University of Surrey, United Kingdom, with research interests in Public Law and the administration of justice.
Her career also includes a stint as a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University in the UK. She is a prolific author in reputable law journals and an active participant in legal education forums, having served on committees of both the Council of Legal Education and the Nigerian Bar Association.
As Director-General, Dr. Odusote will assume responsibility for the overall academic leadership, administrative management, and strategic direction of the Nigerian Law School across all its campuses.
She will also serve as the primary liaison between the institution, the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers, and the Nigerian Bar Association.
