Confirms transmission to State House

The Senate confirmed on Tuesday that the National Assembly had transmitted the tax reform bills to President Bola Tinubu for his assent.
The confirmation came as Tinubu signed three new bills in Abuja, raising the number of bills he signed into the laws in the life of the 10th Assembly to 55.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Publicity, Sen. Yemi Adaramodu, confirmed the transmission of the tax reform bills while speaking with Senate Correspondents at the National Assembly in Abuja.
โI can confirm to you, yes, the bills have been transmitted to the Executive.
โYou can quote me on thisโ, Sen. Adaramodu said.
The four tax bills are Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Bill, 2025; Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill, 2025; Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, 2025; and Nigeria Tax Bill, 2025.
The Senate had on May 28, adopted the harmonised versions of the bills as agreed to by both chambers of the National Assembly, having earlier passed them for first, second and third readings.
President Tinubu had forwarded the bills to the Legislature in November 2024, but they were soon trailed by controversies after many stakeholders, including the Governorsโ Forum, opposed them.
However, following a series of consultations to iron out grey areas and the adjustments in the Value Added Tax (VAT), corporate and income tax provisions of the bills, among others, tension was doused, eventually allowing the National Assembly to pass the bills.
Although both the Presidency and the National Assembly celebrated the bills as part of the midterm achievements of the current All Progressives Congress-led government, there has been no evidence that Tinubu assented to the bills.
On Tuesday, the Senate dispelled further rumours about the bills, saying that while the Legislature had completed its bit, it awaited the President to append his signature to them.
