A renewed clash in the Ikpeshi community of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, has left one person dead and four others seriously injured, with the wounded hospitalised at an undisclosed facility.
Sporadic gunshots filled the air, destroying an unconfirmed number of houses, while the community is now deserted due to the presence of armed cult groups and unidentified men.
Ikpeshi community has been engulfed in a series of communal and chieftaincy clashes in recent times.
An eyewitness attributed the violence to a decades-long chieftaincy dispute that has eroded peace in the area.
Despite Ikpeshiโs abundant mineral resources, persistent crises have hindered its potential as an agricultural and mining hub.
Residents have called on the state government to deploy additional security forces, including the police, DSS, and army, to restore order and protect vulnerable groups, particularly non-indigenes under attack.
