“When I think about love, I think about my mommy and daddy.”
That line comes from the “Save the Date” video Zlatan and Davita posted on Instagram on the evening of October 8. There was no caption, only the date: 24 October 2026. The voice belongs to their son, a child announcing, in the simplest language available, something his parents had taken a long time to say publicly themselves.
For a couple the public had been guessing about for years, letting their son do the talking was itself an answer.
Zlatan first went to London in 2019. In later interviews, he said he could not even figure out the British banking system, so he asked a friend for help. The friend brought Davita along. She drove him around for hours, taking him wherever he needed to go. Zlatan said it reminded him of university, when God used other people’s hands to give him a place to land.
They came back to Lagos together, and the relationship continued. They have two sons, Toluwalase and Benaiah, the second born in 2024. For much of that time, Davita stayed largely out of the spotlight, appearing in occasional family photos but rarely speaking publicly about the relationship.
But the relationship was never a straight line in public view. In February 2023, the two unfollowed each other on Instagram, and breakup rumours spread quickly. Neither responded, and they later reconciled. It was the first sign that their private life had become a subject of public speculation, whether they wanted it or not.
What turned this into a full public story was a single remark in early 2026. When social media posts described Davita as Zlatan’s wife, Zlatan’s response, according to multiple reports, was that she was his baby mama, not his wife. The line travelled fast and sparked widespread discussion, partly because it seemed to settle a question many had been asking, and partly because of how bluntly it was phrased.
It is worth noting that Zlatan later denied certain versions of the reports, calling some of what circulated “fake.” But the phrase “baby mama, not wife” had already lodged itself in public memory, and no clarification could fully undo it.
After that, things accelerated. In March, the couple posted family photos with matching rings, and Davita began using the surname Omoniyi in her Instagram bio. In May, photos surfaced of a private civil ceremony; neither commented publicly. In July, singer Teni, on her way to Soso Soberekon’s wedding, introduced Davita as Zlatan’s wife and said the wedding was coming soon. Each development was small on its own, but together they formed a pattern the public could read.
Then came the October 8 video, and the pattern became an announcement.
Davido commented “Na man U be.” Poco Lee, Broda Shaggi, Toke Makinwa and Jarvis all sent congratulations in the comments. Those reactions have become standard for Nigerian celebrity weddings: the announcement video, the celebrity roll call in the comments, the hashtag. For Zlatan and Davita, the hashtag is #DTTheUnion.
Zlatan has never been one to parade his family life on social media, occasional posts and nothing more. This time, they handed the most important announcement to a child, who said something simpler than any PR statement could.
As for “baby mama, not wife,” neither has explained it. The wedding is tomorrow. Some questions do not need an answer. They just need a date.
