The Director-General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Professor Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman, has congratulated Comrade Issa Aremu, mni, on his reappointment as Director-General of the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS), Ilorin, for a second term.
In a statement issued on Monday, 2nd June 2025, by his Media Adviser, Mohammad Abdulkadri, Professor Sulaiman described Aremu’s reappointment as a testament to his exceptional leadership, which has elevated MINILS to national and international recognition.
Highlighting Aremu’s achievements, Sulaiman commended his efforts in inclusive training, gender balance initiatives, institutional linkages, and entrepreneurship programmes.
The Director General NILDS therefore urged the Comrade DG “to see his continuity in office as an opportunity to consolidate on his impressive performances in the areas of impactful Citizenship Engagements, re-engage ment, Ministerial deliverables benchmark which he exceeded in 2024 from 1,250 to over 3,000 participants trained in Ilorin campus”.
He also emphasised the need for Comrade Aremu to continue “on the trajectory of building on the record of 720 Youths trained in cinematography carpentry, tie and dye and to prioritise staff welfare in his continuous repositioning Journey of the institute towards attaining greater height through the instrumentality of Transformative leadership strides”.
In a separate letter, the Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI), led by Ambassador Emmanuel Obi Okafor, mni, also lauded Aremu’s reappointment, praising his dedication to labour studies and industrial relations.
The association expressed confidence that his continued leadership would further shape Nigeria’s labour policies and contribute to national development.
“Your passion for promoting harmonious labour-management relations and advancing the cause of workers’ welfare has earned you recognition and respect from all stakeholders across the country and beyond.
“We are confident that under your continued leadership, to play a pivotal role in shaping labour policies and practices in Nigeria, as well as contribute to the nation’s economic development and social progress”, the letter read in part.
Meanwhile, the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria has also hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for reappointing Aremu, citing his outstanding first-term achievements, including infrastructural upgrades, solar energy adoption, and improved staff welfare.
The group made the commendation in a press statement jointly signed by its National Coordinator, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi and National Secretary Dr. Nasir Balogun
The Group noted with satisfaction the landmark achievements recorded during the first term of Comrade Isa Aremu, which included more infrastructural provisions for the Institute, such as solar energy installations, the renovation of training facilities, and increased training programmes leading to higher revenue generation. Additionally, the Group acknowledged the sustained payment of workers’ annual bonuses (20% of their salaries) as well as improvements in general worker welfare.
It maintained that for higher productivity, workers welfare in terms of training, promotion and other incentives must be priotised by the DG.
The group noted that MINILS has gained increased patronage from federal, state, and private sector organisations under Aremu’s stewardship and urged him to redouble his efforts in his second term.
Aremu, an alumnus of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), has been widely praised for revitalising MINILS, with stakeholders expressing optimism that his reappointment will further strengthen the institute’s role in labour capacity building and policy development.
