A helicopter has crashed in Igbokoda, the headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, with several persons feared dead in the incident.
The crash, which happened on Monday, October 5, 2026, sent shockwaves through the riverine community as residents fled in different directions for safety.
As of the time of filing this report, details of the incident were still unclear. It could not be confirmed how many people were on board the aircraft, nor has the condition of any possible survivors been established.
Efforts were said to be ongoing to reach the crash site, with sources indicating that rescue and assessment operations were being hampered by the location of the incident.
Igbokoda, a coastal town and commercial nerve centre of Ilaje, is one of the oil-producing areas of Ondo State where helicopters are routinely deployed for oil and gas logistics.
The incident has once again brought Nigeria’s aviation safety record into focus, coming on the heels of several helicopter crashes in recent years, many of which involved oil workers and military personnel.
More details are expected as the story develops.
