President Bola Tinubu has appointed Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission (NAHCON).
The appointment, which is subject to Senate confirmation, follows the resignation of Professor Abdullahi Usman, who stepped down this week after approximately 14 months in the role.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, confirmed the nomination in a statement issued from the State House on Wednesday.
In the letter transmitted to Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Wednesday, President Tinubu formally requested the expeditious confirmation of Ambassador Yusuf in line with Section 3(2) of the NAHCON Act, 2006.
Ambassador Yusuf brings extensive diplomatic experience to the position, having served as Nigeriaโs Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Tรผrkiye from 2021 to 2024. He is a career diplomat with decades of service in Nigeriaโs foreign mission.
The appointment signals the Presidentโs intent to place the countryโs hajj administration under experienced diplomatic leadership ahead of the next pilgrimage season.
