Former Kaduna State governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has alleged a plot by security operatives to arrest him, claiming that several of his close associates have already been detained.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa Service, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain said he believes his own arrest may be imminent.
โAbout four people we worked with in Kaduna have been arrested. So, it may only be a matter of time before they come for me as well,โ El-Rufai stated.
His comments come amid heightened public attention on the recent arrest and prosecution of Abubakar Malami, Nigeriaโs former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.
Malami, who remains in custody, is facing multiple allegations, including abuse of office and money laundering, brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He was subsequently re-arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) over separate allegations linked to terrorism financing.
