President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed 39-year-old Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), making him the youngest person to ever occupy the position.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy), sees Professor Aina succeed Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose maximum two-term tenure officially ends on July 31, 2026.
At just 39 years old, Aina, who turns 40 in July, brings a rare combination of academic pedigree and hands-on examination systems experience. He is a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in the engineering field.
His academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom.
He has also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
Interestingly, Aina’s career in examination management began during his National Youth Service, when he worked directly with JAMB. That early exposure to national admissions and data-driven processes has since shaped his work as a systems optimisation expert.
Over 15 years of post-graduation experience, he has advised federal and state governments on digital transition, system design, and institutional reform. He has also consulted for major examination bodies, including NECO, NABTEB, and various State Ministries of Education, focusing on ICT systems and examination integrity.
Professor Aina is a member of several professional bodies, including COREN, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the IEEE, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
President Tinubu, in announcing the appointment, expressed confidence that Aina will build on the “laudable heights” achieved by his predecessor and take the critical educational body even further through his experience, knowledge, and practical insight.
