The Presidency has officially commissioned two newly completed female students’ hostels at the Gadau Main Campus and Yuli Campus of Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU), Bauchi State, as part of the 2024 Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Annual Intervention Projects.
The commissioning ceremony, held at the university’s Gadau Main Campus, formed part of a nationwide exercise showcasing key projects executed through TETFund across tertiary institutions in Nigeria under the Federal Government’s educational development agenda.
The newly inaugurated facilities consist of two modern 40-room ensuite hostels designed to provide safe, comfortable, and conducive accommodation for female students, while addressing accommodation challenges within the institution.
Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor of Sa’adu Zungur University, Professor Fatimah Tahir, described the projects as a significant step toward enhancing the quality of campus life and strengthening the university’s commitment to academic excellence.
She noted that quality accommodation remains an essential component of students’ success and wellbeing, stressing that the new hostels would improve comfort, security, and the overall learning environment for female students.
According to her, the projects demonstrate TETFund’s unwavering commitment to educational development and student-centred infrastructure across the country.
“These hostels represent more than physical structures; they are investments in the future of our students and a reflection of our collective commitment to creating an environment where learning can thrive,” she said.
Professor Tahir also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for sustaining support for TETFund initiatives and prioritizing investments in educational infrastructure nationwide. She further commended the Executive Secretary of TETFund, project contractors, and supervisors for ensuring the successful delivery of the facilities.
Representing the Commissioner for Higher Education and Regional Integration, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Malam Isa Mohammed Tahir, described the hostels as tangible evidence of government’s dedication to improving educational standards and student welfare.
He stated that the facilities would provide students with a secure and supportive environment conducive to learning, personal development, and academic achievement.
“A hostel is more than a place of residence; it is a community where students build relationships, exchange ideas, and prepare themselves for future leadership roles,” he said.
The Permanent Secretary urged students to take ownership of the facilities by ensuring their proper use and maintenance, emphasizing that preserving the infrastructure would enable future generations to benefit from the investment.
He also acknowledged the contributions of the Presidency, TETFund, the university management, and other stakeholders whose collaborative efforts made the projects possible.
The commissioning of the hostels underscores the Federal Government’s ongoing commitment to expanding educational infrastructure, improving students’ living conditions, and strengthening the quality of higher education across Nigeria.
