Police Arrest Suspect for Illegal Possession of Locally Made Firearm in Bauchi
The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a suspect for unlawful possession of a locally fabricated firearm in Nahutan Darazan community of Darazo Local Government Area.

According to the Command, the arrest followed a report by a concerned resident who alerted the police to the suspect’s alleged possession of the prohibited weapon.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed in a statement on Saturday that the report was received by officers at the Darazo Divisional Headquarters on May 28, 2026.
Acting on the intelligence, operatives swiftly intercepted the suspect, identified as Shafiu Abdulkadir, and subjected him to interrogation.

The police spokesperson said the suspect voluntarily confessed to possessing the firearm and admitted that he personally fabricated the weapon using metal materials.
During the operation, officers recovered the locally made firearm along with tools allegedly used in its construction.

The suspect and the recovered exhibits have since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Bauchi for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Commending the informant for his vigilance and patriotism, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, urged residents to continue providing useful information to security agencies.

He also called on traditional rulers and community leaders to strengthen collaboration with the police in tackling illegal arms possession and other criminal activities across the state.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining public safety and ensuring that individuals involved in unlawful possession of weapons are brought to justice.
