The Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has moved to consolidate its administrative control in Cross River State by extending the tenure of the existing State Caretaker Committee for an additional three months.
The official communication of this development was signed by Comrade Ini Ememobong, the National Publicity Secretary on Wednesday, December 31.
This decision, emanating from the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), reappoints Rt. Hon. Bassey Eko Ewa as Chairman and Dr. Bassey Joseph Adim as Secretary, alongside sixteen other members.
The reappointment is executed pursuant to Section 29(2)(b) of the party’s constitution (as amended in 2025) and on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC).
The committee is now formally charged with the responsibility of managing all party affairs within the state. Its mandate, as stipulated under Section 21(2)(a-b) of the party constitution, is set for a period not exceeding ninety days or until the election and inauguration of a new state executive committee, whichever comes first.
The full committee comprises political figures from across the state, including Dr. Joe Ekpe Edet, Mr. Udie Mike, Dr. Lynne Bassey, Hon. Etim Okon, Barr. Ankot Cohbom, and Mr. Ofana Raphael Odo. Other members are Dr. Onun Inyang Unoh, Barr. Ebaye Akunjom, Hon. Godswill Obindim, Barr. Edem Ekong, Mr. Raymond Abo, Mr. Moses Bisuakefe, Barr. Agabi Dominic Oko, Mr. Walter Nandi Esom, Mr. Ekpo Asuquo, and Pst. Victor Erig Takon. Mr. Emmanuel Ekpe will serve as the Administrative Secretary.
This move is seen as a strategic effort by the national faction to maintain a structured leadership presence in the state ahead of future electoral exercises and internal party processes.
