The political landscape in Osun State is taking shape ahead of the 2026 governorship election, with a key faction within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) making a significant demand.
A caucus loyal to the party’s National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, has publicly called for the party’s governorship ticket to be exclusively zoned to the Osun West Senatorial District.
The group, known as the Omoluabi Progressives, issued the demand following a strategic meeting held in Ilesa, which they say was attended by their supporters from all 332 electoral wards in the state. The meeting served not only to solidify their position but also to welcome a wave of new members.
In a statement, the Publicity and Organising Secretary of the caucus, Abosede Oluwaseun, confirmed the developments, stating, āThe meeting featured the formal welcoming of new members from political divides, including the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Some former members of the defunct, The Osun Progressives (TOP) also officially returned to their political root.ā
The gathering was deemed significant enough to attract a visit from Kamil Mudashir, the Chairman of the ADC’s National Membership Mobilisation, Revalidation and Registration Committee, who met with Mr. Aregbesola. According to the statement from Ms. Oluwaseun, the former governor addressed the attendees, praising their commitment. She relayed his message, stating, āIn his address, Ogbeni hailed members for their dedication to building the movement and announced that the apex body of Omoluabi Progressives had resolved to present a formidable aspirant from Osun West Senatorial District for the December 12 ADC primaries, to demonstrate unity and strength.ā
