The Kaduna State Government has suspended the 66th Independence Day celebration scheduled for Thursday, October 1, 2026.
The suspension was announced by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Ahmed Maiyaki, on behalf of Governor Uba Sani.
In a statement issued on Monday, Maiyaki said the suspension took effect immediately.
The statement, titled “Suspension of the 66th National Independence Day Celebration,” said the state government had decided to suspend the event earlier planned for October 1.
It read, “This is to inform the general public that the Kaduna State Government has suspended the 66th National Independence Day Celebration, earlier scheduled to take place on Thursday, 1st October 2026.”
The government expressed regret over any inconvenience caused by the decision.
It also thanked residents, stakeholders and members of the public for their understanding and cooperation.
However, the government did not give any reason for the suspension.
The decision means the planned Independence Day activities in Kaduna will no longer hold as scheduled.
