The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced a further extension of the enforcement deadline for its tinted glass permit policy, pushing the new compliance date to 2nd October 2025.
The decision, approved by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, comes in response to a significant increase in applications through the official portal, necessitating more time for thorough vetting.
The police said the extension will allow for proper scrutiny of applications to ensure only eligible individuals receive permits, in line with national security considerations.
Authorities also emphasised the need to refine both digital and physical verification processes to prevent abuse of the system. The Police Specialized Services Automation Project (POSSAP) portal—https://possap.gov.ng—remains the only authorised platform for applications, with the public urged to avoid unofficial channels.
The NPF warned against extortion or unauthorised processing fees, directing complaints to a dedicated hotline: 08147818871. The force acknowledged public cooperation while reaffirming its commitment to balancing security measures with citizen convenience.
This is the latest in a series of deadline adjustments since the regulation was reintroduced to enhance security and curb criminal use of tinted vehicles.
The police said the additional time would ensure a smoother rollout, minimising disruptions for law-abiding motorists. Enforcement will now begin in October, giving applicants several more weeks to regularise their documents.
The extension follows consultations with stakeholders, though the NPF reiterated that no further delays are expected beyond the new deadline. Motorists are advised to complete their registrations promptly to avoid penalties once enforcement commences.
