In a landmark achievement for international policing cooperation, Commissioner of Police Olubode Ojajuni has been elected as a member of the INTERPOL Africa Committee.
The Nigeria Police Force announced this significant milestone, which was secured during the 27th African Regional Conference held in Cape Town, South Africa. CP Ojajuni’s victory in the keenly contested election grants Nigeria the committee’s fifth seat for a two-year tenure.
The statement confirming this international victory was signed and issued today, Friday, by the Force Public Relations Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police Olumuyiwa Adejobi, mnipr, mipra, fCAI. This election is widely viewed as a testament to the professional standing of the Nigeria Police Force and a positive step towards fostering a more secure future for the entire African region.
The role places Nigeria at the heart of continental security strategy. The INTERPOL Africa Committee is vested with the critical responsibility of advising the African Regional Conference in the execution of its mandate, facilitating its sessions, and identifying strategic crime priorities.
Furthermore, it is tasked with strengthening police cooperation across borders, advancing best practices, and developing projects aimed at enhancing regional and continental security.
This accomplishment underscores Nigeria’s growing influence in global law enforcement, particularly in the united fight against transnational crime, terrorism, and other emerging threats. With CP Olubode’s election, Nigeria is poised to continue playing a critical role in shaping regional and global policing strategies under the INTERPOL framework.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, was quick to commend this achievement. In an official statement released on Friday, he congratulated CP Ojajuni on his feat. The IGP “reaffirms the commitment of the Nigeria Police to professionalism, integrity, and international cooperation,” while also “pledging to sustain active engagement with global partners to promote peace and security worldwide.”
