In a significant international operation, the Nigeria Police Force, working through INTERPOL, has successfully sent a wanted Chinese gang leader back to China to face charges for violent organised crime.
The fugitive, Mr. Dai Qisheng, was a notorious gang leader wanted by authorities in Guizhou Province. He had fled China in 2024 after an arrest warrant was issued by the Public Security Bureau of Zhijin County, seeking refuge in Nigeria to evade justice.
His run from the law ended on 8th August, 2025. Operatives from the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja tracked, surveilled, and apprehended Dai Qisheng in the Nigerian capital.
Following his arrest, he was formally repatriated to Beijing on 15th August under a framework of police-to-police cooperation coordinated by INTERPOL. The operation was carried out alongside INTERPOL NCB Beijing and the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria.
The Nigeria Police Force stated that this operation “underscores the Force’s unyielding commitment to its fight against transnational organised crime.” It also serves as a strong warning to other fugitives. The force reaffirmed its “resolve to ensure that no fugitive finds a safe haven within Nigeria.”
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reassured partners of the force’s dedication to international collaboration. He said the force is committed to “continuously improve on international alliances, leveraging intelligence-sharing and operational collaboration to ensure that borders never become barriers to justice.”
He emphasised that the arrest “is a clear message to criminals worldwide that the Federal Republic of Nigeria will not be a hiding place for fugitives.”
This successful repatriation highlights the growing strength of global police partnerships in tackling complex cross-border crime networks. It demonstrates that despite the challenges of international pursuit, cooperation can ensure that individuals accused of serious crimes are brought to justice.
