Namibia’s Governor of Ohangwena Region Kadiva Hamutumwa has made a strategic business visit to Lagos Nigeria, driving a conversation on cross-border partnerships, African unity, and bilateral economic expansion.
Her high-level session with selected Nigerian stakeholders held at Lekki Phase 1, Lagos on Monday, where she shared insights on sector-specific opportunities available in her region and across Namibia.
Namibia, a Southern African nation with a population of about 3 million people, is recognized for its stable governance, structured political system, and strong representation of women in leadership. With the country experiencing steady growth in tourism, climate investments, mining, and infrastructure, Governor Kadiva stressed that the future of African prosperity rests on Africans strengthening trade and business with each other, not just with external nations.
Governor Kadiva highlighted multiple sectors ripe for collaboration from tourism, water infrastructure, sport and entertainment development, climate and environmental projects, air transport and aviation partnerships, road construction, to agriculture value chains and agro-processing. She emphasized that Namibia is not merely seeking capital infusion — but mutual partnerships that drive mutual wealth creation.
“We are not only looking for investors; we are looking for partners. African partners. I believe deeply in Africa. And I believe Namibia and Nigeria working together will accelerate African unity, and expand African economic power,” she said.
Representatives of the Embassy of Namibia were in attendance and provided important, practical information for prospective Nigerian investors and visitors.
The Embassy team outlined the different visa categories available, tourist, business, work and investor visas and walked attendees through application procedures, required documentation, processing timelines, and tips to ensure successful submissions. They emphasized Namibia’s openness to business visitors and encouraged Nigerians to consider short exploratory missions, trade visits, and longer-term partnerships.
The Embassy delegation also reassured participants that Namibia is actively working to streamline visa procedures for bona fide business initiatives, 5 years work visa and urged applicants to engage official channels for up-to-date guidance. In a development that raised interest in the room, the Embassy hinted that Namibia’s President, H.E. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, is expected to make an official trip to Nigeria later this year; organisers noted the visit is anticipated but an official date is yet to be announced.
Remish Property Development Ltd, led by its CEO Mr. Ibrahim Shehu, hosted the governor for this exclusive session. In his welcome address, Mr. Ibrahim thanked Governor Kadiva Hamutumwa for honoring his invitation and stressed that Remish is committed to opening new prosperity gateways between both countries. He appreciated representatives from Providus Bank Ltd and various other industry captains present at the session.
Mr. Ibrahim equally announced a growing collaboration between Remish Property Development Ltd and the Ohangwena Region of Namibia, and encouraged Nigerian business interests to tap into the fresh opportunities opening up beyond the West African corridor.
Governor Kadiva also fielded questions from attendees and later appreciated everyone present, noting that she will also be heading to Abuja in the coming days to meet additional stakeholders and expand the circle of engagement.
This Lagos meeting marks a bold step in Africa-to-Africa economic diplomacy, shifting from conversations to concrete strategic partnerships, as Namibia and Nigeria move closer in building continental value, continental prosperity, and continental unity.
