…Commends Establishment of Mega School
By Beatrice Gondyi Bauchi
In a renewed effort to tackle the challenge of out-of-school children, Misau Local Government Area of Bauchi State has launched an enrollment drive targeting 5,000 children for the 2025/2026 academic session, which begins on Monday, September 8, 2025.
The Executive Chairperson of the council, Salisu Hussaini Hardawa, disclosed this on Saturday while addressing journalists at the newly completed Mega School in Misau, built by the Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
Hardawa said the council had begun identifying children who abandoned schooling due to poverty, assuring that deliberate measures were in place to return them to the classroom.
“The Education Secretary and other staff of the Education Department have been engaged in a series of processes to boost standards in the sector,” he said.
He praised the completion of the Mega School, pledging that it would be properly maintained and maximally utilized. He further revealed that more qualified teachers would be recruited, while existing ones would be retrained to ensure quality teaching.
According to him, the council has also made provisions for adequate learning materials and teaching aids, warning that erring teachers would be sanctioned in line with directives from SUBEB’s Executive Chairman, Adamu Muhammad Duguri.
On concerns about the school’s bushy environment, Hardawa assured that it would be cleared within 24 hours to make the premises ready for resumption. He also disclosed that local residents had been engaged as security guards to safeguard the facilities.
Earlier, the Education Secretary highlighted that the Mega School has 10 classrooms, eight staff offices, and a fully furnished administrative block, with each classroom designed to accommodate up to 50 pupils without congestion.
Also speaking, the Commissioner of Information and Communications, Usman Shehu Usman, who led journalists on a tour of state projects, said the establishment of Mega Schools across Bauchi was part of Governor Bala Mohammed’s strategy to reduce congestion in schools and curb the out-of-school children crisis in the state.
