Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reappointed Dr. Johnson Alalibo Sinikiem to Rivers state as the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) to win public trust and manage the state’s upcoming electoral processes, including the update of the voters’ register.
Sinikiem who took over from Professor Gabriel Yomere, had previously served as the REC in Rivers, Cross River, and Edo states before his recent redeployment to the oil-rich state.Reliable Sources told Spear News that Sinikiem is known to have experience in electoral management within the South-South region.
Shortly after assuming office, Sinikiem held meetings with key officials of the electoral umpire, where he focused on operational readiness, voter education, staff coordination, and strategies to ensure credible, transparent, and peaceful elections to build public confidence in the outcomes of the forthcoming general polls.
