The office of former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, has stated that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been formally served with a recent court order, despite an initial refusal to accept the documents.
According to a statement signed by Mohammed Bello Doka, Special Assistant on Media to the former Minister, a Court Bailiff, Mr. Abiodun Kolawole, attempted to serve the order on the EFCC one day after it was issued, but the commission declined to receive it.
The statement clarified that this refusal does not invalidate the legal service. “This refusal does not negate service nor diminish the authority of the Court,” it asserted.
Legal service was conclusively completed later that same evening when the law firm of Okutepa, SAN, acting as legal representatives for the EFCC in the matter, officially received the court order. Malami’s office stated this action “conclusively establishing notice and awareness on behalf of the EFCC.”
The press release aims to place on public record that the EFCC has been legally notified of the court’s directive. The specific details of the underlying court order or the related case were not disclosed in the statement.
