Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, has inaugurated the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Campaign Council in Kebbi State, appointing a Director-General and over 600 members to lead the party’s electoral mobilization efforts.
Speaking at the inauguration, Malami described the council as a grassroots structure dedicated to advancing the collective aspirations of all ADC candidates in the state, from the governorship to the Senate, House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly. He stressed that the council represents one political family rather than competing structures serving individual ambitions.
“Different candidates, one ADC. Different communities, one Kebbi State. Different responsibilities, one common purpose,” he declared.
Malami acknowledged the party’s senatorial candidates — Gen. Aminu Bande for Kebbi Central, Garba Maidoki for Kebbi South, and Chiroman Kabi, Alh. Mera, for Kebbi North — along with other candidates contesting various elective positions.
The former minister warned members against tribalism, sectionalism and internal rivalry, describing them as forces capable of weakening the party’s movement. He urged party leaders to make reconciliation a central responsibility, saying, “Where there are disagreements, let us reconcile. Where there are grievances, let us listen. Where there is suspicion, let us rebuild trust. Our diversity must become our strength.”
Malami directed the Campaign Council to conduct activities with dignity and respect for political opponents, insisting that the ADC campaign must remain peaceful, lawful, and devoid of ethnic insults or hate speech. He reminded supporters that elections are temporary, while community bonds endure long after electoral contests.
“After the elections, we will still worship together, attend the same markets, celebrate together, mourn together and raise our children together. No political ambition is worth destroying those bonds,” he said.
Addressing the council members, Malami charged them to see their appointments as a call to service rather than a reward. He urged them to mobilise, reconcile aggrieved members, and carry the ADC message to every local government, ward, and polling unit across Kebbi.
The inauguration, he said, marks the beginning of a major phase of political mobilisation and grassroots engagement. “Today is not a reward for work completed. Today is the beginning of the work,” he stated.
He concluded with a rallying call to members and supporters: “Let us arise above our differences. Let us arise above tribalism and sectionalism. Let us arise together in service to our people. And together, let us make Kebbi State shine. Arise and Shine!”
