The Labour Party (LP) has announced the rescheduling of all its 2027 primary elections to Saturday, 30th May 2026, citing conflicts with two major national events.
In a press release issued on Thursday, 21st May 2026, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, disclosed that the primaries for President, Governor, Senate, House of Representatives, and State Houses of Assembly will now hold simultaneously on the new date.
The primaries were originally scheduled for 27th May (Governorship and State Houses of Assembly) and 29th May (Presidential and National Assembly).
However, the party noted that 27th May 2026 coincides with the Eid el-Kabir (Eid al-Adha) celebration, while 29th May marks the third anniversary of the inauguration of elected public office holders across the country.
Describing itself as a “people-oriented and responsive political party,” the Labour Party explained that the adjustment was necessary to allow members, aspirants, supporters, and Nigerians generally to fully observe the spiritual significance of Sallah and the national importance of the 29th May anniversary.
The party apologised for any inconvenience the change may cause aspirants, stakeholders, and the public, while appealing for understanding and cooperation.
All primary elections will now take place on Saturday, 30th May 2026.
