The Labour Party (LP) has officially released its timetable and schedule of activities for the conduct of primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party’s roadmap outlines a compressed two-week window beginning May 6, 2026, for the sale of nomination forms, screening of aspirants, and the primaries themselves.
According the scheduled signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa: “In accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), the Electoral Act, 2026, and the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Revised Timetable for the Conduct of 2027 Elections, the Labour Party hereby releases its timetable and schedule of activities for the conduct of its 2026 primary elections.”
According to the schedule, aspirants for the House of Assembly will pay a total of N3 million (N1 million for Expression of Interest and N2 million for Nomination Form). For the House of Representatives, the total stands at N5 million (N1.5 million and N3.5 million, respectively).
Senatorial aspirants are to pay N10 million (N2.5 million for Expression of Interest and N7.5 million for Nomination Form), while gubernatorial aspirants will pay N25 million (N5 million and N20 million). The presidential nomination form has been fixed at N50 million (N10 million for Expression of Interest and N40 million for Nomination Form).
A notable exception, however, was made for Abia State Governor, Alex Otti. Asogwa confirmed: “His Excellency Alex Otti shall be presented the form for free by the NWC.”
In line with the party’s motto of Equal Opportunity and Social Justice, the Labour Party approved concessions for certain categories of aspirants.
Female aspirants, People Living with Disabilities (PWDs), and Youth (aged 25–30 years) are only required to pay for the Expression of Interest Forms for all categories of positions, effectively waiving the significantly higher nomination form fees.
The sale of nomination forms for all elective offices is scheduled to commence on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, and end on Monday, May 16, 2026. Submission of completed forms will take place on May 17 and 18, 2026.
Screening of aspirants is split by office: House of Assembly and Governorship aspirants will be screened on May 20, 2026, while National Assembly and Presidential aspirants face the screening panel on May 22, 2026. The publication of screening results is set for May 23, 2026, with appeals scheduled for May 24 and 25, and the final list of cleared aspirants to be published on May 26, 2026.
The party primaries are slated for May 27, 2026 (House of Assembly and Governorship) and May 29, 2026 (National Assembly and Presidential).
Urgent Membership Registration Call
In a final appeal, the Labour Party urged all prospective aspirants for the 2027 elections who are yet to register with the party to take advantage of the ongoing membership e-registration.
Asogwa warned: “Registration remains open from Sunday, 3rd May 2026 to midnight on Monday, 4th May 2026, ahead of the compilation and submission of the party’s membership register to the Independent National Electoral Commission in compliance with the Electoral Act, 2026.”
He added: “The Labour Party urges all prospective aspirants for the 2027 elections who are yet to register with the Party to take advantage of the ongoing membership e-registration and register before the midnight of Monday, 4th May 2026.”
