A coalition of community leaders, clergy, captains of industry, and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has purchased the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for former Minister of State for Labour, Hon. Barr. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, to contest the Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 general election.
The group presented the forms to the former minister on Sunday at her country home in Isuochi, Abia State.
Speaking during the presentation on behalf of the group, Chief Godswill Agu Egbe (PhD) said the voice of Isuikwuato/Umunneochi had gone silent with little development to show for years of legislative representation due to the inexperience of the current occupant of the seat.
“The voice of Isuikwuato/Umunneochi has been dead and silent. We have seen little or no progress. That is why we are calling on Hon. Onyejeocha to run for the Federal House of Representatives in 2027,” he said.
Other leaders present included Hon. Nnamdi Udueze, Hon. Ifeanyi Chukwu, Chief Enyioma Ekebuike, Chief Emeka Nwachukwu, Hon. Uchechi Okorie, Hon. Barr. VC Nwankwo, Hon. Barr. Emeka Okorafor, and Hon. Chinwendu Kanu.
The presentation came just a day after Onyejeocha gifted a three-bedroom bungalow to Madam Regina Love Amaechi of Amaeke Umuaku in Umuaku Isuochi, Umunneochi Local Government Area. Residents of the community described the gesture as a tangible act of empowerment.
Responding to the presentation of the nomination forms, Onyejeocha expressed satisfaction with the confidence reposed in her by the group.
“I am deeply moved by this show of faith and support from my people. This call will spur me to do even more,” she said.
The former Deputy Chief Whip announced that she would redirect personal funds she had already mapped out to purchase her own nomination forms to the charity and humanitarian department of her foundation. The funds, she said, would be used to build houses for indigent widows in Isuikwuato/Umunneochi.
“Instead of using that money to buy what has already been bought for me by these stakeholders, I will channel it to putting roofs over the heads of vulnerable widows in our constituency,” she said.
She promised to uphold the confidence reposed in her and pledged quality representation if elected.
