Hon. Jamilu Muhammad, Member representing Faskari/Kankara/Sabuwa Federal Constituency in Katsina State, has resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), accusing the party of failing to provide strong opposition in Nigeria’s current political climate.
In a resignation letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Faskari Ward, Muhammad expressed disappointment with the party’s direction, stating it no longer aligns with his vision for a united and progressive Nigeria.
“This decision did not come lightly, but after deep reflection and wide consultation, it has become clear to me that the party no longer represents the type of focused, credible, and united opposition that Nigeria so desperately needs at this critical time,” he wrote.
The lawmaker criticized the PDP’s lack of coordinated opposition, particularly during key political moments. He also referenced internal divisions during the recent Kankara/Faskari/Sabuwa Federal Constituency re-run election, which he said exposed unresolved cracks within the party.
“More disappointing was the conduct of some members of the PDP during the re-run election, which further weakened our common front,” Muhammad stated.
Emphasising the need for political realignment, he declared, “It is time to move beyond party interests and fight for the future of our dear country.”
While expressing gratitude for his time in the PDP, he hinted at joining forces with like-minded individuals across party lines.
“I look forward to working with others who share the vision of a better, more inclusive Nigeria,” he concluded.
Muhammad’s resignation adds to growing tensions within the PDP as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections.
