Security operatives in Kaduna State have arrested a man allegedly working as an agent for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with N25.9m (ยฃ25,000; $32,000) in cash, suspected to be intended for vote-buying.
The suspect, Shehu Aliyu Patangi, was detained in the early hours of Saturday at a hotel along Turunku Road in Kaduna metropolis.

Police and officials from the Department of State Services (DSS) carried out the operation ahead of a parliamentary bye-election in the Chikun/Kajuru federal constituency.
Kaduna police spokesman DSP Mansir Hassan said Mr Patangi had confessed that the money was meant to influence voters, and he had pleaded for leniency.

The stateโs police commissioner, Rabiu Muhammad, praised the joint security operation and warned that anyone attempting to undermine the electoral process would face legal consequences.

Authorities said security had been tightened across potential flashpoints to ensure a free and fair vote.

Voters were urged to cast their ballots without fear, with assurances that security agencies would protect the integrity of the election.
